Vice Ganda pokes fun at long-delayed 'Darna' project

Comedian Vice Ganda recently made a joke about the "Darna" project, which has been postponed several times.

During the recent episode of "It's Showtime," the topic was brought up when Vice asked the "Reina ng Tahanan" contestant Claris Valladores about her dream wedding theme.

In the middle of the conversation, Vice suggested a Darna-inspired ceremony.

But he teased: “Ay kaya lang, kapag Darna…”

“Naka-panty ka ‘pag kinasal!,” co-host Kim Chiu interjected.

Vice agreed but added in jest: “Naka-panty ka kapag kinasal at tsaka parang every year, papalitan ka. Tapos ang tagal matuloy!”

Vice then continued: “Bakit naging ganu'n yung Darna, ang tagal matuloy?"

“Bad trip, sinabi sa ‘yo ng asawa mo, ‘Ang theme natin, Darna.’ ‘Ah, talaga? Kailan? ‘Ah, hindi pa sure. Darna ‘yan, e.’ Basta sasabihin lagi tapos di matutuloy!”

In 2014, it was announced that Angel Locsin will star in the latest Darna flick which will be directed by Erik Matti.

But  in 215, Angel dropped from the project following a back injury.
In 2017, Angel was replaced by Liza Soberano.

A year later, Erik backed out of the project, citing “artistic differences with ABS-CBN.” He was quickly replaced by Jerrold Tarog.

In April 2019, ABS-CBN released a press statement announcing Liza had left the project due to a “finger injury.”

Some months later, Jane De Leon was named her successor.

But due to the pandemic, it was announced that the film will no longer push through.

However, ABS-CBN revealed that "Darna" will now be airing as TV series.

Though, early this year, Jerrold confirmed that he’s no longer involved in the upcoming TV series, saying “scheduling conflicts” as the reason for his pullout.

ABS-CBN said that Jane will star in the latest "Darna" series which will begin taping this September.
