PLDT Home Fibr finally ended its six-game losing spell by sweeping Perlas, 25-22, 25-20, 25-21, Sunday night in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the PVC Socio-Civic & Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.
Despite being out of contention, the Power Hitters still fought on against the resilient Perlas Spikers for their breakthrough win in the pro league.
Isa Molde scored 14 points built on 12 kills and two aces for PLDT, while Toni Basas and Jorelle Singh added 11 points apiece.
PLDT coach Roger Gorayeb said the victory boosted his player’s confidence after residing at the cellar for most parts of the tournament.
“Kami naman simula umpisa, hinahabol namin yung confidence level namin, tapos yung mga bata naman masipag,” Gorayeb said.
But his young team still needs more experience to go up against tough squads in the league.
“Neneng-nene pa yung team eh. Pero ang kagandahan naman ngayon, nag-respond sila kasi may pinractice kami kahapon,” he said.
The Power Hitters outhustled the Perlas Spikers in attacks, 46-35, with Molde and Singh combining for 22 hits.
Alyssa Eroa also shone for PLDT by taking charge of the floor defense, managing 22 of the team’s 76 digs.
Rhea Dimaculangan also converted 24 excellent sets to power PLDT’s offense.
The Perlas Spikers absorbed their fourth defeat in five games despite Chery Nunag scoring 14 points.
