Norman Black: It's pleasure to have Alvin Pasaol

Meralco coach Norman Black gave rookie Alvin Pasaol a chance to deliver in Saturday's 89-80 win against Alaska in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

And there are no signs of regret for Black as Pasaol converted when needed the most with 13 points, firing a perfect three-of-three from beyond the arc, to go with two rebounds, two steals, and a block in 13 minutes of play off the bench to help the Bolts take solo third at 4-1 record.

"It's great getting a lift from Alvin. Alvin is a pleasure to coach, he always has that smile on his face, the jolly type of guy who comes at practice every day," said 11-time PBA champion coach.

"Like he really wants to be there to work. He didn't get a chance to play last game. I short in rotation to make sure I can get that win last game but tonight, I thought I had the opportunity to get him in and he came in and delivered for us."

Pasaol, just like his heydays in the UAAP, wowed fans with his hot shooting from the three-point line, scoring three corner treys and two free throws to put up an 81-72 lead with 5:39 left.

Just like that, the former University of the East standout made an instant break for Meralco after only securing 12 points overall in the last couple of games.

The 26-year-old bruiser, who got drafted by the Bolts at No. 9, went scoreless against their loss to Rain or Shine and did not suit up the following match versus Phoenix.

"I think he scored 13 points (against Alaska) and most of those points came in the second half. That was big for us in this game so I'm very happy for him," said Black.

The Bolts earned their second straight win to get the lone spot at No. 3.
