Nograles: 4M COVID shots for NCR secured

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said that the government's pandemic task force has already secured the 4 million doses of coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines that Metro Manila mayors have requested following reports of a spike in the number of infections in the region.

Nograles made the statement after Metro Manila mayors requested an additional 4 million COVID-19 vaccine doses as the National Capital Region (NCR) was scheduled to shift to the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) from August 6 to 20, 2021.

In an interview with Super Radyo DZBB, Nograles said National Task Force (NTF) against COVID-19 Chief Implementer Carlito Galvez Jr. and Deputy Chief Implementer Vince Dizon already assured the mayors that they will get additional vaccine shots.

"Binigyan ng assurance ang ating mga NCR mayors na yung 4 million doses na kinakailangan for NCR ay na-secure na (The NCR mayors were already assured that the 4 million vaccine doses they needed have been secured)," he said.

"Alam na namin kung ano yung mga brands na gagamitin, na darating sa ating bansa at itatabi namin purely for NCR (We already know what brands to use and the ones arriving in the country and we will reserve them purely for NCR)," he added.

As of July 29, a total of 19,359,927 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered with 7,835,715 completing the required two doses.

On Friday, Malacañang announced that President Duterte has approved moving more areas to stricter community quarantine classifications for the month of August due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases and to prevent the spread of the dreaded Delta variant.

In a statement, Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said NCR will be under the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) from August 6 to 20, 2021.

However, before the shift to ECQ, Metro Manila will first be under the general community quarantine (GCQ) with heightened and additional restrictions until August 5.

Roque had explained that the week-long GCQ period was to give business owners the opportunity to make the necessary arrangements in case their businesses will not be allowed to operate during the two-week ECQ period.
