P90-M fake cigarettes meet fiery end in cement plant furnace
A shipment of smuggled cigarettes worth P90 million was reduced to ashes after the Bureau of Customs (BOC) destroyed the contraband via burning in Cebu.

A total of 1,804 master cases of cigarettes, which were confirmed fake, were disposed of at the facilities of Taiheiyo Cement Philippines Inc. (TCPI) last Wednesday, July 7.
The cigarettes, which carried the brands Mighty, Marvels, and Fort were seized at the Port of Cebu and were eventually forfeited in June 2021. The items arrived in two separate shipments from China and were declared as table panels, cabinets, and chairs.
“We have partnered with TCPI for the use of its facilities in compliance with Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero’s directive to dispose forfeited cigarettes through burning in the furnaces of cement plants,” Deputy District Collector for Operations Marc Anthony C. Patriarca said.
TCPI’s Environment and Safety Officer Dwight P. Avila emphasized that the condemnation process was strictly monitored to ensure compliance with existing environmental protocols.
Patriarca was joined by Auction and Cargo Disposal Chief Ronald D. Morillo and representatives from the Assessment and Operations Coordinating Group, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service, and Enforcement and Security Service in supervising the actual condemnation process.
Representatives from Japan Tobacco International and Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Corporation were also present during the process.
Last year, the port seized and destroyed eight shipments of counterfeit cigarettes worth P374 million.
