DOST-FNRI's malnutrition reduction program receives 2021 Alberto G. Romualdez Jr. Outstanding Health Research Award
The Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Research Institute’s (DOST-FNRI) Malnutrition Education Program (MEP) has been conferred with the 2021 Alberto G. Romualdez Jr. Outstanding Health Research Award (AROHRA).

This was announced by DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Peña during his weekly report on Friday, July 9.
"The DOST-Food and Nutrition Research Institute’s (FNRI) “Malnutrition Reduction Program: Moving towards Sustained Implementation,” has been chosen as the winner for the Health Services Research Category of the 2021 Alberto G. Romualdez Jr. Outstanding Health Research Award (AROHRA) sponsored by DOST-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD),” he said on the DOSTv Facebook page.
“The MRP is a DOST program that demonstrated doing science for the people.”
The DOST chief said the program has so far covered 151 cities and municipalities in 54 provinces.
Under the program, a total of 5,233 community health workers have already been trained.
De la Peña said there were 27 approved local resolutions adopting the “DOST PINOY nutrition intervention strategy”
Meanwhile, he also bared the DOST-FNRI’s resumption of its face-to-face data collection for the Expanded National Nutrition Survey (ENNS) on July 1.
The Institute’s first batch of well-trained and dedicated researchers started their field work in Tarlac City.
“This is the first face-to-face data collection to be resumed since the pandemic started which will be for the last leg (third year) of ENNS comprising the last 37 provinces,” de la Peña noted.
