DOH logs 5,881 new cases of COVID-19

The Philippines recorded 5,881 additional cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Friday, July 9.

The new cases brought the country's caseload to 1,461,455, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

Active cases stood at 51,902. Of this number, 90.3 percent are in mild condition; 4.4 percent are asymptomatic; 1.5 percent are critical; 2.2 percent are severe; and 1.56 percent are moderate.

“Ten duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, seven are recoveries. In addition, one case was found to have tested negative and has been removed from the total case count,” the DOH noted.

The country's death tally climbed to 25,720 with 70 more patients who succumbed to the respiratory disease, including the 34 cases that were “previously tagged as recoveries” but were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

Meanwhile, the recovery count rose to 1,383,833, including 3,003 new recoveries.

“While we are seeing a consistent downward trend in our cases, let us all not be complacent at this point,” said DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire.

“Hindi kami magsasawang magpaalala sa inyong lahat patuloy pa ring sumunod sa ating minimum public health standards at safety protocols sa lahat ng oras at pagkakataon (We will never get tired of reminding you all to continue to adhere to our minimum public health standards and safety protocols at all times),” she added.
