4.5-magnitude quake hits Zamboanga del Norte -- Phivolcs

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has recorded a magnitude 4.5 earthquake in Zamboanga del Norte on Friday afternoon, July 9.
Phivolcs said the quake occurred around 4:34 p.m. and traced its epicenter at 12 kilometers southeast of Katipunan, Zamboanga del Norte.
The earthquake occurred at a shallow of 20 kilometers beneath the epicenter.
Phivolcs said the tremor was felt as a "weak" shaking at Intensity III in Katipunan and Dipolog City in Zamboanga del Norte.
It was felt as a "slight" shaking at Intensity II in Pinan, Polanco, and Liloy in Zamboanga del Norte; Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental; and Tubod, Lanao del Norte.
Meanwhile, it was "scarcely perceptible" at Intensity I in Tampilisan, Zamboanga del Norte.
The quake was tectonic in origin, which means the tremor was caused by the movement of an active fault in the area.
Phivolcs was not expecting damage to property.
Aftershocks were also unlikely to occur.
