Winners of 2021 GSIS Art Competition released

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has released the list of winners of its 16th National Art Competition held last June 25.

The competition, with the theme "Alay na Ginhawa sa Panahon ng Pandemya" received a total of 1,451 entries across three categories, namely: Representational, Non-Representational, and Sculpture/Relief.

A cash prize of P300,000 was awarded to each of the top winners of the Representational and Non-Representational painting categories, while P250,000 was given to the winner of the Sculpture category.

Second and third place winners in all three categories received P200,000 and 100,000, while four honorable mentions in all categories were granted P25,000 each.

In the Representational painting category, John Mhar Santos bagged the first prize for "Parcel No. 143."

Ryan Joseph Casiles and Edu Parreras won second and third prizes for "Yakapsul" and "Doble Kayod," respectively.

For the Non-Representational painting category, the top prize was awarded to Seifred Guilaran of "Brush Stroke Imitation," while second and third prizes went to Rick Hernandez for his "Tale of Two Variants" and Herbet Pajarito for "Look Up in the Sky."

For Sculpture, Sariel Armando Ancheta was awarded first place for "Tatsulok," followed by Dante Blanco for "Dalangin" and Wilfredo Custodio for "Ang Hardinera" for third place.

Meanwhile, honorable mentions were conferred to Joemel Mirabuena for "Silver Lining," Christian Cabillo for "Sakripisyo ng Maginhawang Bukas," Norberto Mallari for "Pakunswelo," and Edmond Reboredo for "Be Positive - Be Negative," under the Representational painting category.

In the Non-Representational painting category, Elbert Caballero for "Komposisyon ng Pukyutan," Jonathan Borjal for "Rushed Sheet," Rodel Rillera for "Philwealth," and Aberlardo Maceda Jr. for "Panganib" likewise earned honorable mentions.

Francisco Sibug for "Matthew 11:28," Wilfredo Baysauli for "Liwanag ng Pag-asa," Frederick Masangkay for "Plantita," and Arsenio Lagura Jr. for "Pananagutan" were named honorable mentions under the Sculpture category.

All winning artworks are now part of the GSIS art collections and will be on display at the GSIS Museo ng Sining in Pasay City until Dec. 29, 2021.
