“With the progress we have seen on-site today, we are optimistic that the C5 Link Segment will be completed as planned," Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar said following an inspection on the site Thursday, July 8.

“We continue to double our efforts, all the while looking after the safety of our workers to ensure we complete Segment 3A2 by the first quarter of 2022 and Segment 2 by the third quarter, also of next year," Villar added.

Segment 2 is a 1.9-km portion of the Cavitex-C5 South Link that will soon connect CAVITEX R1 to Sucat, bypassing Sucat Road and Quirino Avenue.

Segment 3A2, on the other hand, is a 1.6-km portion that will connect Merville to RSG Subdivision in Pasay.

At present, Segment 3A1 is already operational. It starts from Merville to SLEX/C5 and caters to an average of 12,000 motorists daily.

Upon completion of the entire 7.7-km road, around 50,000 motorists, particularly those coming from Taguig, Makati, Las Pinas, and Pasay, are expected to be benefitted.

"We really look forward to the completion of this project because aside from helping decongest EDSA (Epifanio delos Santos Avenue), Sales Road and other major thoroughfares, this expressway will help reduce the travel time of our motorists from Cavitex to Makati and Taguig and vice versa in under 45 minutes." Villar said.

Cavitex-C5 South Link is a segment of the Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway Project, which is a joint venture of Cavitex Infrastructure Corporation (CIC) and the Philippine Reclamation Authority. The CIC is a subsidiary of the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC).

Aside from the Cavitex and Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), MPTC’s portfolio includes the concessions for the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), the Subic-Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), the NLEX Connector Road, and the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) in Cebu.
