Lito Adiwang getting ready for next fight after matchup postponement vs Brooks

Team Lakay strawweight contender Lito Adiwang is more than ready for his next match in ONE Championship following the postponement of his fight against Jarred Brooks last April.

Adiwang, who is now fully recovered from COVID-19, said training has been consistent so far and the lessons he gained from the last camp in preparation for Brooks will make a huge impact come the next fight.

Although not disclosing any names, the Team Lakay stalwart is firm that his next bout will come up soon.

"It's my gain," Adiwang told the Manila Bulletin. "In every training, improvement mo yan (that's your improvement). 'Yong hard work and preparation ko kay Jarred, gain ko na 'yon (My hard work and preparation against Jarred, that's my gain too).

"Right now, may mga areas ako na, for example si Jarred, alam natin gusto niya gawin is takedown and control me to the ground, then ground and pound. 'Yong mga training ko dati and how to stop it, napaghandaan ko na 'yon na makatulong sa akin for my next fight (Right now, there are areas that I have improved on 'cos we know Jarred, he wanted to execute lots of takedowns, control me to the ground, then ground and pound. Adiwang, along with bantamweight ONE newcomer Stephen Loman, caught COVID-19 last April which prompted the two to back out of their respective fights.

The 27-year-old Adiwang last saw action in January with a second-round knockout win over Japanese foe Namiki Kawahara to improve at 12-2 record.

Brooks, considered as the No. 1 strawweight fighter in the world, for his part, boasts a 16-2 slate with one no-contest decision.

Meanwhile, entering the second half of 2021, Adiwang said he'll remain close to his goal of "taking it one step at a time."

The former No. 5 strawweight contender vowed to return to the Top 5 picture and wants to test his skills against the strongest grapplers, particularly Yoshitaka Naito of Japan, currently No. 2 in the rankings.
