ITCZ to persist over Palawan, Visayas, Mindanao

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Thursday, July 8, that the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will continue to prevail over Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao.

State meteorologists said Palawan, Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao Region may experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the prevailing ITCZ.

Residents in these areas were advised to take precautions against possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to at times heavy rains.

Weather specialist Ariel Rojas explained that the ITCZ is the convergence of trade winds from the northern and southern hemispheres.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country would have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the ITCZ and localized thunderstorms.

Rojas noted that no severe weather disturbance is expected to affect the country in the next three to five days.

PAGASA has not issued a gale warning, meaning that fishing boats and other small sea craft are allowed to venture out into the sea.
