Governors' group wants security mark, uniform COVID-19 vaccination cards for tourists

The League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP) is pushing for the placement of a security mark on the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) vaccination cards as part of the measures to prevent them from being faked.

In an interview over ABS-CBN’s TeleRadyo, LPP national president and Marinduque Governor Presbitero Velasco Jr. also insisted that there should be a uniform COVID-19 vaccination cards for easier verification in determining their authenticity.

Velasco also stressed that the local government units (LGUs) should be given the option to decide whether to require swab tests for the vaccinated tourists before they are allowed entry in the concerned localities.

“Yun naman po ang posisyon namin. 'Di naman po namin nilalahat (LGUs) 'yung ganyang requirement - 'yung testing bago pumasok. Discretion na po ng local chief executive 'yan. Maaaring marami na pong nabakunahan na kanilang residente katulad po sa Baguio (That has been our position. We are not saying that the testing requirement should be applied to all before entry. It is already the discretion of the local chief executive. There are lots of residents who were already vaccinated like in Baguio),’’ Velasco said.

The LPP chief added that LGUs with small percentages of vaccinated individuals should be given the discretion on what testing requirements to impose.

But some Metro Manila mayors insisted that their vaccination cards cannot be faked.

Makati City mayor Abby Binay told ABS-CBN’s TeleRadyo that the city’s vaccination cards are stamped with “water marks’’ that can only be seen through black light.
