OCTA Research: Davao City still has highest number of new cases; remains at 'high risk' for COVID-19

Davao City continues to record the most number of new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases per day in the entire country, as it averaged 303 cases daily during the June 29-July 5 period, OCTA Research said in its monitoring report on Tuesday, July 6.

This shows that Davao City remains as a "high risk" area for COVID-19.

Other high risk areas are Bacolod City, Iloilo City, General Santos City, Baguio City, and Tagum City.

OCTA Research explained that the risk level of an area is assessed using the indicators of the Covid Act Now developed by the Harvard Global Health Institute, Apple, Microsoft, and Bloomberg.

Four indicators are used to determine the COVID risk of an area, which include incidence based on the local government unit's (LGU) most current reproduction number; incidence based on the most recent seven-day average of new cases per 100,000 population, also called average daily attack rate; hospital ICU utilization rate (ICUUR); and testing which refers to the most recent seven-day average of the test positivity rate.

"The overall risk assessment is based on the average of the four indicators," OCTA said.

Risk levels are color-coded as follows: Green for low-risk, Yellow for medium or moderate-risk; Amber for high-risk; and Red for very high-risk.

The Philippines, rated yellow, had a daily average of 5,451 new cases, which is three percent lower than the average over the past week.

Metro Manila was also rated yellow, with an average of 644 new COVID-19 cases per day, which is five percent lower than the previous week.

Davao City, Bacolod City, Iloilo City, General Santos City, Baguio City, and Tagum City were rated amber, or high risk.
