NAPOLCOM allows PNP to recruit more doctors, lawyers and IT experts

The National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) has allowed the Philippine National Police (PNP) to recruit a total of 434 professionals in order to further improve the technical and administrative capability f of the organization.

NAPOLCOM Vice Chairman and Executive Officer Vitaliano N. Aguirre II said the approval for recruitment was embodied in their Resolution No. 2021-0612 which allowed the Chief PNP to recruit doctors, lawyers, and IT experts for lateral entry to the police service.

The quota distribution for the vacancies are as follows: 163 Medical Officers for the Health Service (HS); 20 Medico-Legal Officers for the Crime Laboratory (CL); 100 Legal Officers for the Legal Service (LS); 100 Information Technology (IT) Officers for the Information Technology Management Service (ITMS); and 51 IT Officers for the Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG).

The entry level positions of those who would be recruited are Police Lieutenant and Police Captains under the Lateral Entry Program for Technical Officers for this year.

“The PNP Lateral Entry Program is aimed to strengthen the human resource and technical capability of the police organization in managing present and future challenges,” said Aguirre.

He explained that the recruitment of the Medical Officers and Medico-Legal Officers is intended to augment the present medical workforce of the PNP to address the current pandemic.

"They will also be utilized to speedily resolve forensic cases and facilitate medical processes," Aguirre said.

The hiring of legal officers is the PNP’s response to the government’s relentless campaign against criminalities which require the support of dedicated lawyers in every PNP Office/Unit while Information Technology (IT) Officers are expected to further strengthen the PNP’s information technology capability in order to meet the technological and digital communication requirements of the police service under the new normal.

For his part, PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar welcomed the approval of the recruitment for technical officers, saying this would result in improved operational capability of the police organization.

He assured that the PNP will strictly observe guidelines set by the NAPOLCOM for the recruitment of more professionals in the police ranks.
