'Habagat' to bring scattered rains over Metro Manila, parts of Luzon, Visayas -- PAGASA

Scattered rain showers due to the southwest monsoon or "habagat" could affect some areas in Luzon and Visayas in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday afternoon, July 6.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may particularly prevail over Metro Manila, Bataan, Zambales, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Bohol, Cebu, and Siquijor.

Under these conditions, isolated flash floods and rain-induced landslides are possible during heavy or prolonged rainfall especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in the hazard maps, PAGASA warned.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the habagat and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA advised the public to remain vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Severe thunderstorms are often associated with bursts of heavy rainfall, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.

Moreover, PAGASA said moderate to rough sea conditions will likely prevail over the coasts of Luzon, while slight to moderate conditions may prevail over the seas across the rest of the country.

It advised seafarers and fisherfolk to remain alert during severe thunderstorms as sea conditions may become rough.
