'2021 Pinoy K-Pop Star Transcend,' KCC PH's 10th anniversary set

The Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in the Philippines has set different events for the month of July. 

After taking a break last year due to the pandemic, the Philippines’ biggest K-pop competition is back this year through the “2021 Pinoy K-pop Star Transcend.” 

It will be different this year as the “2021 Pinoy K-Pop Star Transcend,” the Philippine finals for the 2021 K-pop World Festival, will be held online and will focus only on dance performances based on the decision of 2021 K-Pop World Festival organizers. 

The “2021 Pinoy K-pop Star Transcend” will be held live on KCC’s YouTube channel on July 30. Interested participants may send their application until July 11. The announcement of finalists will be on July 14, which is also the start of the online voting. 

Cash prizes await the winners. The first place will win P30,000, the second place will take home P20,000 and the third place will win P15,000. The fourth, fifth and sixth place will be given special KCC gift bags. 

Eligibility for “2021 Pinoy K-Pop Star Transcend,” according to KCC: 

1. Participants are preferably 18 years old and above at the time of the competition.

2. Participants aged 17 years old and below will also be allowed to join.

a) The under-aged participants MUST provide a waiver that states they are allowed by their parents to join the competition and that the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines is absolved of all responsibility in case any untoward incidents happen.

3. Participant(s) must be a resident and a citizen of the Philippines. Both parents of the participants must not have had Korean citizenship; however, if only one of the parents has acquired Korean nationality, the participant can still join.

4. Due to different COVID-19 policies and restrictions around the globe, the grand final round in Korea is still under discussion. Should it be decided that the finals will be held in Korea, the participants (upon qualification) should be eligible to travel to Korea. Nevertheless, chosen participants must be available for online finals, too, should this be the decided platform for the finals.

5. Submissions of solo performances are allowed, but contestants from groups are not allowed to “group hop” or join other teams when they are already a member of one group.

6. Past PKS winners are allowed to join given that they did not reach the final round of the past Changwon K-Pop World Festival.

The “2021 Pinoy K-Pop Star Transcend” is open for solo and group performances (maximum of  10 members). Video submission must be filmed with utmost care and observance of COVID-19 protocols. 

Applicants are required to submit three contest videos: 

- One video of a dance performance using any K-Pop songs from 2019 to 2021. It must be one full song track and no remixes are allowed. Video must not exceed six minutes.

- One video of a dance performance using one of the following BTS songs: “Butter” or “Dynamite” and it must be one full song track. No remixes allowed. Video must not exceed six minutes.

- One video (1 to 2 minutes long) of self-introduction. 

- (Optional) If contestants have other dance videos done in the past, they can submit one to two YouTube links.

Contestants are required to only dance the original choreography of chosen songs in the video. Doing own vocal renditions and choreography of the song is not allowed.

On the other hand, KCC will be celebrating its 10th anniversary in the Philippines on July 19. In addition, this month’s “K-Stans: Along With K-Culture” will focus on K-pop. People who have loved K-pop will tell their stories, tips, lessons and experiences. The event will also have P-pop group SB19.
