Roque says People's Reform Party to support Hugpong's bets in 2022 polls; Miriam-like candidates eyed
Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said the People's Reform Party (PRP) will support the candidates of Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) in the 2022 elections but insisted that Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio should run for the presidency.

Roque made the statement after the PRP confirmed its alliance negotiations with HNP and is set to make the formal announcement on Wednesday, July 7.
In an interview with GMA 7, Roque said PRP had no problem with the HNP choosing candidates as long as they possess the same principles as the late Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, the founder of PRP.
"Wala po kaming problema d’yan (There's no problem with that)," he said.
"Ang importante po ay koalisyon at base sa principle na kinakailangan merong katapangan, katalinuhan, katapatan at walang bahid ng (What's important is the coalition based on the principle that the candidate should be brave, smart, honest, and has no stain of corruption)," he added.
According to Roque, he believed that these qualities are possessed by the presidential daughter.
"Sa tingin po namin, ang lahat ng katangian na ‘yan ay nasa pagkatao ni Mayor Sara Duterte (We think that Mayor Sara Duterte possesses all these qualities)," he said.
"Ninanais nga po namin ay sana po, magdesisyon si Mayor Sara na tumakbo para sa presidente ng Pilipinas (We hope that she will decide to run as president of the Philippines)," he added.
This was not the first time Roque expressed his desire for the daughter to succeed President Duterte in Malacanang. In an interview with ANC last month, Roque said he will only run for a national post in 2022 if the Davao City Mayor will run for the presidency.
"I would run with the administration but I think I will only run if Mayor Inday Sara will run for the position of president," he said.
"I think, as a card-bearer of PRP, the party of Miriam Defensor-Santiago, it is Inday Sara who, I believe, has the same qualities as Miriam Defensor-Santiago to become president," he added.
Days later, Roque updated his Facebook page with photos of him in an event that aimed to urge Sara Duterte to run next year.
