NDRRMC: Over 5,000 individuals evacuate as Taal unrest continues
More than 5,000 residents in Batangas have left their homes and sought shelter in evacuation centers as Taal Volcano continued to exhibit earthquakes and sulfur dioxide emissions which were related to its magmatic unrest, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Monday, July 5.

Lito Castro, chief of the provincial disaster risk reduction and management office (PDRRMO) in Batangas, said 1,563 families or 5,583 persons were already evacuated in the province.
He said 1,026 families or 3,617 persons were staying at evacuation centers while 537 families or 1,966 persons opted to seek refuge with their relatives and friends.

Meanwhile, Office of Civil Defense (OCD) spokesperson Mark Timbal said 10 local government units (LGUs) have already conducted evacuation of their residents.
These are Agoncillo, Laurel, Taal, Lemery, Balete, Cuenca, Mataas na Kahoy, San Nicolas, Talisay, and Tanauan City.
"Majority of our evacuees come from Laurel and Agoncillo. The count also includes evacuees from municipalities that had voluntary evacuations," Timbal said.
Twenty-two evacuation centers have also been utilized, which was double from the 11 activated shelters last Saturday, to ease up the decongested facilities.
