The Manila city government has given houses to more than 200 families through the Basecommunity Housing Project on Monday (July 5).

Manila Mayor Francisco" Isko Moreno" Domagoso led the opening of the housing project and about 229 units will be given to 229 families.
"Ang gusto ko ay makapamuhay kayo ng maayos (I want you to live well)," Domagoso said,
"Kailangang sabay tugunan ng pamahalaan ang pangangalaga sa kalusugan at pangangalaga sa kabuhayan ng tao (The government must address health care and human livelihood protection at the same time)," he added.
In December, 2020, the city government broke ground for the Basecommunity which aims to provide decent and affordable housing to residents in the city, particularly the poor.
Each house will have two bedrooms, a living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, study area, and service area.
"Sa mga batang andito, ‘wag kayong mag-aalala. Mababawasan na ang pangamba ng magulang ninyo na habang nasa trabaho sila, hindi nila iisipin kung ang bahay na barong-baro nila ay nakatusok pa ba o hindi (To all the children here, don't worry. Your parents' worries will lessen while they're working because they will no longer wonder whether their house is still standing or not), " Domagoso said.
During the opening ceremony, Domagoso and Vice Mayor Maria Sheilah “Honey” Lacuna-Pangan also broke ground for the construction of the Basecommunity Park.

Domagoso also announced that the city government will build an additional 1,000 condominium units for public housing in San Lazaro, San Sebastian, and Pedro Gil.
