'Emong' seen to pour moderate to heavy rains over Batanes, Babuyan Islands
Tropical depression “Emong” is forecast to bring moderate to heavy rains over Batanes and Babuyan Islands in the next several hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Monday evening, July 5.

The state weather bureau said Emong passed near Batan and Sabtang Islands in Batanes on Monday night, while its estimated location was 90 kilometers (km) west of Basco, Batanes as of 7 p.m.
It has maintained its maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph while moving west northwestward at 50 kph.
PAGASA said Emong is seen to bring moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over Batanes and Babuyan Islands tonight until Tuesday morning, July 6.
Tropical cyclone wind signal number 1 remains hoisted over Batanes and the northeastern portion of Cagayan, particularly Santa Ana and Gonzaga towns, including Babuyan Islands.
PAGASA warned that areas under Signal No. 1 will be experiencing strong winds. Winds will gradually weaken during the period as the tropical depression moves further away.
“The tropical depression is forecast to move generally northwestward or west northwestward in the next 12 hours,” PAGASA said.
“Emong may likely exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility tonight or tomorrow early morning and will move northwestward towards Guangdong Province, China,” it added.
The agency estimated that the weather disturbance may intensify into a tropical storm within the next 12 hours.
It will then weaken into tropical depression as it makes landfall over Guangdong Province, China and remnant low as it moves further inland.
