PCG evacuates Batangas residents amid Taal Volcano's unrest

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) evacuated at least 125 residents in barangays Gulod, Buso-Buso, and San Gregorio, Laurel in Batangas after short phreatomagmatic bursts of Taal Volcano on Saturday, July 3.

Personnel of the PCG transported at least 22 residents of Barangay Gulod, Laurel to Paliparan Elementary School, which serves as an evacuation center for the residents as Alert Level 3 was raised over the Taal Volcano.

In cooperation with the Philippine Air Force (PAF) and the Philippine National Police (PNP), 64 residents of Barangay Buso-Buso, Laurel were evacuated to Sta. Maria Elementary School, while at least 39 residents of San Gregorio, Laurel were transported to San Gregorio Integrated School following the sudden eruption of Taal.

The PCG Station Cavite prepared deployable response groups to provide more personnel and assets as the need for evacuation arises on Friday, July 2.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) continuously detect volcanic earthquakes and high sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions from Taal Volcano on Sunday, July 4.

The Philvocs asked residents around Taal Lake to “calmly” prepare for possible evacuation should Taal Volcano’s unrest intensifies.
