More than 100K polling precincts being eyed for May 2022 polls
In order to avoid crowding, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is eyeing to increase the number of clustered precincts in the May 2022 national and local polls.

Comelec Spokesman James Jimenez said from 84,000, they are planning to increase the polling precincts to 100,000 or more.
"There will be more precincts now than before because of the increase in our voting population. Plus, we have a (COVID-19) pandemic so we don't want crowding," he said in an online forum Friday, July 2.
"Before, we have about 84,000 clustered precincts. Now, our estimate is we will be having 100,000 to 105,000," added Jimenez.
He said there will be approximately 800 voters per precinct.
"The registered voters in 2019 was 61 million. Now, we are already at 60 million," Jimenez said.
The Comelec had said that voters can vote with confidence in the May 2022 polls as voting centers are designed to be coronavirus disease (COVID-19) safe.
"We have designed our polling precincts precisely to be COVID safe which means we wil be prioritizing the use of large spaces so there will be no crowding," Jimenez said.
"There will be social distancing inside the polling places and in every voting center there will be health screening stations," he added.
