Alex Eala to face Argentine foe in first round of Wimbledon Juniors

Alex Eala continues her quest for a first Grand Slam singles title when she begins her Wimbledon Juniors Championships campaign on Monday, July 5.
Eala is seeded second in the 64-player main draw field and is set to face Solana Sierra of Argentina in the opening round.
At No. 3 in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior rankings, Eala hopes to eclipse her best Grand Slam singles finish of a semifinals at last year’s French Open.
The 16-year-old Filipina teen sensation also hopes to translate her doubles success in the singles event as she is coming off a French Open Junior Doubles victory with Russian partner Oksana Selekhmeteva.
Eala, however, made an opening-round exit in the singles.
This would be Eala’s first Wimbledon appearance after the juniors event was cancelled last year due to the pandemic.
She joined a pre-Grand Slam tournament by competing in the J1 Roehamption where she finished in the quarterfinals recently.
Eala is also expected to compete in the girls doubles, but draw has yet to be released by Monday.
