'Habagat' weakens but rains persist over some Luzon areas -- PAGASA

The effect of the southwest monsoon or "habagat" has weakened but may still bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over some parts of Luzon in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Saturday afternoon, July 31, said.
Scattered light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms may affect Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Calamian Islands, and Antique.
PAGASA advised the public to remain vigilant against possible flooding or rain-induced landslides as rains may sometimes become moderate to heavy.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country can expect "fair" weather in the morning with partly cloudy to cloudy conditions.
However, isolated afternoon or evening rain showers or thunderstorms may still occur.
Those in Metro Manila were advised to take precautions against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
A gale warning remains in effect over the northern and western seaboards of Northern Luzon and western seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon due to rough to very rough seas associated with the southwest monsoon.
Fishing boats and other small seacrafts were advised not to venture out into these seas while larger sea vessels were asked to be alert against big waves.
