2 more cops die of COVID-19

The death toll of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the Philippine National Police (PNP) rose to 84 on Saturday, July 31, after two more policemen were confirmed to have died of health complications due to virus infection.

Based on the data of the PNP Health Service, the 83rd fatality who died on July 29 was a 42-year-old police staff sergeant assigned in Camp Crame. He was hospitalized on July 6 due to kidney malfunction and yielded negative result upon his admission.

On July 13, he repeated the swab test test which yielded a positive result. He was then transferred to COVID ward of the hospital.

On July 29, he experienced difficulty in breathing and was intubated but later on succumbed.

The 84th fatality, on the other hand, was a 51-year-old Police Lieutenant assigned in Tuguegarao City.

On July 23, he went to the clinic for consultation because of fever, body malaise and sore throat. On the same date he underwent laboratory examination and swab tests. On July 25, the result of his swab test yielded positive and was advised to proceed to their quarantine facility.

On July 27, he experienced difficulty in breathing and was hooked to oxygen inhalation. On July 30, his condition worsened and around 4 a.m. he was pronounced dead by the attending physician.

As of July 31, the PNP Health Service recorded 106 new cases which brought to a total of cases to 30,434.
