The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) warned its personnel on Friday, July 30, of the stiffest possible sanctions should they get involved in any form of lawlessness or illegal acts.

BJMP spokesperson Chief Insp. Xavier Solda issued the statement after Jail Officer 1 Juanito Estrebor II, assigned at the Quezon City Jail, was implicated in the attempted murder case against Justino Casuga, the executive assistant of La Union Governor Francisco Emmanuel R. Ortega III.
The incident has added to the tense situation in the province following the discovery of an alleged plot to assassinate a congresswoman and two town mayors in the province.
Information sent to Solda revealed that a police incident report was filed with the La Union Police Provincial Office in San Fernando on July 25 based on the complaint of Casuga against Estrebor.
Initial investigation showed that Casuga previously reported that his life was under threat from an unidentified male roaming near his place, thus, he requested for a temporary security from the Philippine National Police (PNP).
The police report indicated that at 4 p.m of July 25, Casuga had just arrived at his home from a meeting and alighted from his vehicle when he was approached by a male suspect, who turned out to be Estrebor.
Casuga claimed that Estrebor was armed at that time but quickly turned his back upon seeing two PNP security aides.
The suspect was allegedly confronted and arrested by Casuga’s security personnel begore he was turned over to local police for an investigation.
“We will never tolerate any BJMP personnel na gumagawa ng anumang paglabag sa batas (who violates the law),’’ Solda said.
Since a complaint has already been filed, Solda stressed that Estrebor should face and answer the charges against him.
The BJMP spokesperson noted that the BJMP is conducting its own probe as Estrebor stands to face possible administrative charges.
