Nievarez: I'll come back stronger

Rower Cris Nievarez said he learned plenty of lessons in his Olympic debut after finishing 23rd in the men’s singles sculls of the Tokyo Games.

The native of Atimonan, Quezon said a Facebook post that the Tokyo stint has made him more motivated to do better moving forward.

“This Olympics made me realize na hindi lang basta pwede na, laban lang, okay na yan,” Nievarez said yesterday.

“You need to have proper preparation before ka mag-compete sa ganito kataas na Games. And I think I did my best to try to make it to the Final A, pero ayun nga malaki pa ang kulang.

“But still, happy for the result of being 23rd out of 32 competitors. I’ve learned a lot in this competition and I hope this will help me to comeback stronger.”

Nievarez qualified for the quarterfinals after a solid showing in the heats, but lost his medal chances in the next round when he placed fifth.

Still, Nievarez was able to enjoy his time in Tokyo, meeting fellow rowers and even posted a photo with NBA star Luka Doncic, who represents Slovenia in basketball.
