Fisherman swims extra mile to save colleague from capsized boat
A fisherman braved the bad weather as he swam amid huge waves to seek for help for his colleague who was left alone at sea after their boat capsized in Ternate, Cavite on Thursday, July 29.
Jessie de Ocampo, of Naic town, endured the occasional hit of waves on his face to ask for assistance when their motorbanca was overturned by the waves while they were fishing amid the inclement weather caused by the southwest monsoon (habagat).
De Ocampo was rescued by patrolling personnel of the PCG Station Cavite just as he was about to reach the shoreline, the PCG said in an incident report.
De Ocampo's colleague, John Enerlan, was also saved by the PCG after they saw him sitting atop the overturned boat. The rescue of Enerlan was caught in a video that was uploaded by the PCG on social media.
The PCG personnel brought the two fishermen to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) in Ternate for further medical assistance.
After a check up, the fishermen were transported by the PCG to their homes in Naic town.
