DSWD, LGUs provide more than P14-M worth of relief assistance to monsoon victims

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the local government units (LGUs) have so far provided more than P14-million worth of relief aid to the families affected by southwest monsoon rains enhanced by typhoon “Fabian."

The DSWD’s Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) reported that as of 6 p.m., July 30, the aid extended to six most affected regions amounted to more than P14.14 million.

The Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), National Capital Region (NCR), Ilocos, Central Luzon, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon), and Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) have been identified as the six affected regions.

The DROMIC said the monsoon rains had affected 193,259 families or 757,809 individuals from 892 barangays.

The DSWD logged 1,681 evacuee-families or 6,129 individuals from 106 evacuation centers.

Meanwhile, 7,771 families or 35,075 individuals have opted to stay with their relatives and/or friends.

The DROMIC reported that 830 houses were damaged, 169 of which were totally damaged and 661 were partially damaged.
