DOH logs 8,562 new COVID-19 cases -- highest single-day tally since June 12

The country reported 8,562 more coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases on Friday, July 30--the highest single-day tally in seven weeks.

The last time that the Philippines recorded at least 8,000 cases was last July 12 with 8,027 new infections.

Active COVID-19 cases in the Philippines increased to 61,920, based on the latest case bulletin of the Department of Health (DOH).

The active case tally is equivalent to 3.9 percent of the country's overall count of confirmed cases which is at 1,580,824.

Of the active cases, 94 percent were mild, 1.2 percent were asymptomatic, 2.1 percent were severe, 1.2 percent were in critical condition, and 1.49 percent were in moderate condition.

Meanwhile, 2,854 more patients have defeated the viral disease, raising the number of survivors to 1,491,182. The recovery tally represents 94.3 percent of the country's total case tally.

The death toll also jumped to 27,722 or 1.75 percent of the total case count after 145 more people succumbed to the disease. This includes the 90 cases that were “previously tagged as recoveries but were reclassified as deaths after final validation.”
