The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has activated additional “Free Wi-Fi for All” Internet access points across various locations in Pangasinan.
The free Internet access points were deployed at Lingayen District Hospital, Pangasinan State University (PSU)-Lingayen, PSU-Open University and TESDA Lingayen, by the DICT - Luzon Cluster 1.
“Malaki ang papel ng connectivity sa delivery ng (Connectivity plays an important role in the delivery of) basic needs which are food, clothing, shelter, education, health services at lalo na ng (and especially) access to data,” said Secretary Gregorio B. Honasan II during the launch.
“Kailangan ang connectivity para makakuha tayo ng information (Connectivity is needed for us to get information)—timely, accurate and complete information that will allow our people to make informed, rational, intelligent and long-term decisions,” he added.
According to the DICT, there are 142 operational “Free Wi-Fi for All” sites in Pangasinan province, most of which are located in state universities and colleges (SUCs) as of July 1.
Moreover, the DICT established free Wi-Fi hotspots in seven COVID-19 facilities and 30 other locations across six districts in the province from 2020 to 2021.
The DICT expects to deploy more sites for the rest of the year as part of the intensified rollout of the project, particularly in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas.
As of July 1, the department’s Free Wi-Fi for All program had established a total of 10,311 sites nationwide.
