Filipino priests in Rome congratulate Pabillo, Pedregosa

Filipino priests based in Rome, Italy have sent their congratulatory messages to two Church leaders who had been elevated in the Church hierarchy with their new appointments by Pope Francis.

Fr. Greg Gaston, rector of the Pontificio Colegio Filipino, the home of Filipino priests doing further studies in Rome, said the appointments of Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo to head the Apostolic Vicariate of Taytay in Palawan and bishop-elect Noel Pedregosa as shepherd of the Diocese of Malaybalay in Bukidnon are huge blessings.

“We would like to express our gratitude to Bishop Pabillo who had served the Manila archdiocese for a long time. Fr. Pedregosa, for his part, will lead the Diocese of Bukidnon where he had served as its administrator. We are praying for both Bishop Pabillo and Bishop Pedregosa,” Gaston said over Radio Veritas.

Pope Francis made the announcement on Pope’s Day last June 29, the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul. The pontiff, on that day, conferred the pallium to the new archbishops.

Fr. Gaston said newly installed Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula was also supposed to receive his pallium that day but was unable to personally receive it because of the pandemic.

The pallium symbolizes the unity between every Church leader to the Pope.

Pope Francis has named three new Church leaders this year to fill in vacant dioceses including Advincula, Pabillo, and Pedregosa. From six that are sede vacante, only four dioceses are without a bishop-the Archdiocese of Capiz, the Diocese of Alaminos, and the Apostolic Vicariates of Calapan and San Jose, Mindoro.
