CBCP encourages youth to register for May 2022 polls

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) encouraged eligible young people to register as voters to be able to participate in the national and local elections in May 2022.

CBCP Vice President and Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David said voting is a right and duty of every citizen.

"Pag hindi nagparehistro, sinasayang mo ang iyong pagkakataon na mag-participate sa political life ng ating bayan. You are a citizen (If you do not register, you are wasting your opportunity to participate in the political life of our country)," he said during an interview with Church-run Radyo Veritas.

In order to fulfill the obligation of choosing a leader, the first step is to register with the Commission on Elections (Comelec), said David.

"Pag ganyan tayo (If we do that), we will always get the leaders we deserve," he said.

The voter registration will be until September 30. Applicants may visit Comelec offices from Mondays to Fridays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to register.
