Rico Blanco dedicates recent recording to Hidilyn Diaz

Musician Rico Blanco recently re-recorded Rivermaya's "Alab ng Puso."

On Facebook, he dedicated the song to weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, who ended the 97-year drought for the Philippines in its quest for an Olympic gold medal.

"Gumising ako kanina at hindi parin makapaniwala na may Olympic Gold Medal na ang Pilipinas. Alam niyo nang lahat na ang pagmamahal ko sa sports ay katumbas ng pagmamahal ko sa musika, minsan nga higit pa. Mula sa pagka bata ko iniisip ko kung kailan darating ang panahon. At dumating na nga kahapon. Sa mga balikat ni Sgt. Hidilyn Diaz, binuhat nya ang mga pangarap ng bawat Pilipinong katulad ko," he said.

"Hindi ko mapigil ang pag apaw ng inspirasyon mula sa kanya at nais kong magpasalamat lamang kaya't agad agad kong ginawa at inaalay sa kanya ang recording na ito. Salamat, Hidilyn."

Note that the lyrics goes: "Ika'y matutumba. Ika'y masasawi. Mabibilangan ka ngunit babangon kang muli. Walang maniniwala. Walang makikinig. Wala na raw pag-asang daigdig mong tagilid. Padadala ka ba sa agos o hindi?"

After Hidilyn's historical win some days ago, many celebrities were quick to extend their congratulatory messages.

However, Jinkee Pacquiao, the wife of boxing legend and Senator Manny Pacquiao, apologized to followers after some called her out for using the wrong emoji flag of the Philippines in her post.

Anyway, comedian Ogie Diaz and Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz reacted to different memes of them relating to the athlete, who happens to have the same surname as them.
