Report: Ex-AOA's Mina in hospital after suicide attempt

Mina, former member of K-pop girl group AOA, is in the hospital after a suicide attempt, Korean media reported.

An exclusive report by Hankook Ilbo stated that Mina, 27, was found by an acquaintance in the morning of July 29 after attempting suicide at her home. She was transferred to a hospital.

The report added that Mina was bleeding excessively at the time of discovery. The acquaintance was worried about not being able to contact her and visited her house. The acquaintance immediately called the 119 emergency hotline and Mina was taken to a hospital.

Mina has undergone emergency surgery and does not have life-threatening injury although she is still unconscious.

This is not the first time that Mina attempted suicide. Mina debuted in AOA in 2012 and left the group in 2019.

Mina created a firestorm in July last year after posting on Instagram that she was bullied by AOA leader Jimin for 10 years from the time she was a trainee until when she was in AOA.

“I really didn’t want to leave AOA, but I went through so much for the last 10 years and I had enough of her bullying. That’s why I had to give up on AOA although I was on great terms with all the other members,” Mina posted on July 3, 2020, SBS News reported. This prompted Jimin to retire from the entertainment industry.

Last month, Mina became embroiled in a controversy when she posted a photo of herself with a man on Instagram, which she identified as her boyfriend.

It was reported that at the time, the man, identified only by the surname Yoo, had a girlfriend. This blew up and Mina and Yoo were accused of cheating. Mina apologized and parted ways with him.

In an Instagram post, Mina wrote, “I'm sorry about everything. I'm really sorry that I have caused everyone's anger to the point that all kinds of comments were made because of me. The pain of 10 years has been cruel to me. I just wanted to say this. I'm going to put everything down and quietly reflect on myself for the time being.”

On July 29, Mina posted four handwritten notes on her Instagram account wherein she discussed Jimin and AOA’s Seolhyun, and her former boyfriend.
