Public told: Stop sharing 'fake news' on 'circuit-breaker' lockdown

Posts circulating on social media about the implementation of a "circuit-breaker" style lockdown in parts of the country, including Metro Manila, are "fake," a public health expert said.

In a Facebook post, Dr. Edsel Savana, an infectious disease expert and member of the Department of Health Technical Advisory Group, asked the public to stop sharing the "fake" list of areas that would be placed under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) starting Aug. 1.

"IATF has never used the term 'circuit-breaker' or lockdown style," Salvana stressed.

"People who make these things up deserve a special place in hell for making people panic needlessly. Please wait for official announcements and don't share unverified information," he added.

On Wednesday night, July 29, President Duterte has approved to retain Metro Manila and several areas under general community quarantine (GCQ) "with heightened restrictions" from Aug. 1 to 15 to curb the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak.

Iloilo City, Iloilo Province, Cagayan de Oro City, and Gingoon City will remain under ECQ until Aug. 7.

Meanwhile, Ilocos Norte, Bataan, Lapu-Lapu City, and Mandaue City are under modified ECQ until Aug. 15.
