Over 70 residents evacuated as flooding hits Bataan

Personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) evacuated over 70 stranded residents in areas of Bagac and Pilar in Bataan due to massive flooding caused by southwest monsoon or “habagat” on Thursday, July 29.

In a video shared by the PCG, stranded residents of Barangay Pag-asa, Bagac, Bataan were in a “improvised floater” after the rising increase of floodwaters due to heavy rainfall in the area.

The evacuated residents, who were mostly women and children, were taken to the Bernabe National High School in Bagac.

Meanwhile, two families in Barangay Panilao, Pilar, Bataan were brought to safer grounds in Pablo Roman National High School amid the rising floodwaters.

The rescue operation became successful in cooperation with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Thursday, July 29 that the southwest monsoon or “habagat” is seen to continue affecting the country and may bring more rains particularly over Luzon and Western Visayas.

The PAGASA said monsoon rains will persist in Ilocos Region, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, and Occidental Mindoro.
