Caloocan officials deny 'malicious' congratulatory message for Hidilyn Diaz

Caloocan City officials whose photos appeared larger than Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz in a purported congratulatory poster said that the art card did not come from them nor the local government.

In a statement, Caloocan City 1st District Rep. Along Malapitan said he "categorically denies" the social media posts, wherein he and his father, Mayor Oca Malapitan, "were maliciously placed" beside Diaz's photo.

"While I am very proud of Ms. Diaz, her win is hers and hers alone," the younger Malapitan said.

He also said that the fake poster is an "act of politicking," which is "not new in Caloocan" and is "disappointing."

"Nevertheless, I remained true to my efforts in recognizing our first gold Olympian by passing House Resolution No. 1994. It's my simple way of acknowledgement and gratitude to her and our athletes," he added.
