Wanted, 'dangerous' Yakuza gangman falls in BI agents' hands

Bureau of Immigration (BI) operatives have arrested a ranking member of the Japanese Yakuza syndicate long wanted for murder in his home country.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said 58-year-old Toyama Yuji was arrested last July 22 along Roxas Boulevard, Manila by operatives from the bureau’s fugitive search unit (FSU).

“We received information about his crimes last week, and we immediately conducted a manhunt to locate and arrest him,” said Morente.

The BI chief said Toyama will be deported for being an undesirable, overstaying, and undocumented alien.

According to the Japanese police, Toyama is a top executive of the Komura Kai Sagamihara Branch, which is affiliated with the Kyokuto Kai wing of the Yakuza syndicate.

An arrest warrant was issued against him by a Japanese court for killing a compatriot 20 years ago.

He allegedly conspired with five other accomplices in shooting the victim before transporting his body to Sagamihara City aboard a car, which they buried and abandoned afterwards.

The fugitive, who is described by the Japanese police as violent, armed, and dangerous, is now detained at the BI warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending his deportation.
