What Dalian trains? DOTr exec fact checks Facebook comments praising past administration for 'fixing' MRT-3
A Department of Transportation (DOTr) official has called out as "fake news" social media comments saying that the so-called Dalian trains purchased during the past administration are now being used on the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3).

"Taliwas sa ikinakalat ng iba, hindi po totoo na Dalian trains ang ginagamit ng MRT-3 ngayon (Contrary to what some people are spreading, it's not true that Dalian trains are currently being used on the MRT-3)," DOTr Assistant Secretary for Communications and Commuters Affairs Goddes Hope Libiran said in a Facebook post Tuesday, July 27.
Libiran's post came with screenshots of Facebook comments that praised the previous Aquino administration for the current improvements on the MRT-3's service, with the alleged use of Dalian trains being a huge factor in it.
"Only 3 train sets from Dalian were modified and accepted by far. Ibig sabihin, itong 3 train sets na ito pa lamang ang naisasaayos ng Dalian para maging compatible sa sistema ng MRT-3 (This means that only these three sets have been modified by Dalian to make them compatible with the system of MRT-3)," Libiran said.

"Matapos isaayos, kinailangan pa ng mga ito na sumalang sa validation and testing sa linya upang masiguro na ligtas gamitin (After they get fixed, they must still undergo validation and testing on the line itself to ensure safety of use)," she explained.
She underscored that none of the three modified Dalian trains have been running on MRT-3 tracks.
"Hindi pa lahat ‘yan ay naide-deploy due to technical issues. In fact, sa ngayon, and in the last 3 months, walang tumatakbong Dalian train dahil lahat ay for repair and tests (Technical issues have prevented them from being deployed. In fact, in the last three months, no Dalian train has been able to run since all of them are undergoing repairs and tests)."

It was Monday, July 26, during his final State of the Nation Address (SONA), when President Duterte highlighted that public commuting these days especially aboard the once glitch-ridden MRT-3 was no longer a terrible experience for Filipinos.
Referring to the assailed Facebook comments, Linbirian said: "This kind of #FakeNews, similar to what these people continue on spreading, should stop."
A total of 48 trains or coaches from the Chinese Dalian Corp. were purchased by the past administration.
President Duterte took over from the late former President Benigno S. Aquino III in June 2016.
