Duterte lauds San Juan LGU for its COVID-19 vaccination program

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora thanked President Rodrigo Duterte for citing the city government for its superb handling of the COVID-19 situation and its vaccination program during his final State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 26.

"I also encourage our local government units to hasten the rollout and extend the inoculation program. San Juan City, for one, has vaccinated 70 percent of its population in a month's time. Saludo ako sa inyo (I salute you)," Duterte said in his speech.

"I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to President Rodrido Duterte for recognizing San Juan's vaccination program during his State Of The Nation Address today. It means a lot to each and every San JuaneÃ±o especially to our medical and non-medical frontliners and volunteers involved in our daily vaccination program," Zamora said.

"Your kind words, Mr. President, further inspire us to reach our goal of fully vaccinating 70 percent of our population by the end of August, and in fact, go beyond this by targeting to vaccinate 100 percent of our population based on age and health status before the year ends," he added.

Zamora also gave due recognition to the city's vaccination team and health workers for working non-stop to defeat the pandemic.

San Juan City has successfully vaccinated with at least one dose of the vaccine more than 100 percent of its target population to reach herd immunity last July 12, making it the very first LGU to reach a milestone in the country's vaccination program.

As of July 26, the city has recorded 110 active COVID-19 cases, 9,206 recoveries, and 229 deaths.
