DSWD, UN's FAO to sign pact on 'shock-responsive' social protection

More poor Filipino families and vulnerable communities having access to social protection programs is envisioned under a cooperation agreement that will be signed between the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the United Nations-Food and Agriculture Organization (UN-FAO) on Tuesday, July 27.

Seeking to mainstream the Shock-Responsive Social Protection (SRSP) system, the partnership pact is coupled with a two-year work plan providing critical steps to the development of an adaptive and shock-responsive social protection as reflected in the Philippine Social Protection Framework and Plan 2020-2022, the DSWD said.

“The Cooperation Agreement provides a framework for the collaboration between the DSWD and the UN-FAO to work towards the adoption of the Philippine Roadmap on Shock Responsive Social Protection and other potential initiatives relevant to resilience building of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries and other vulnerable households,” it said in a statement.

The agreement “aims to strengthen coordination mechanisms with inter-governmental agencies, strengthening of capacities of concerned institutions, and pilot testing of integrated social protection approaches from regular and ancillary programs and services in selected areas around the country,” it added.

DSWD Secretary Rolando Joselito D. Bautista, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Alexei Nograles, and UN-FAO Country Representative Kati Hannele Tanninen will grace the event. They will be joined by members of the DSWD executive and management committees, and senior officials from partner national government agencies and UN agencies.

“The Department is confident that with the new partnership with the UN-FAO, more poor families and vulnerable communities will have access to social protection programs that are responsive to their holistic needs,” the DSWD said.
