Biñan leaf artist pays tribute to Hidilyn Diaz

BIÑAN, Laguna - Artist Mary Mae Aguilo Dacanay paid tribute to Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz by creating a leaf art inspired by the weightlifter.

The masterpiece features an image of Diaz during her winning moment at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

"Naisipan ko po siya gawan dahil nasungkit nya ang first Olympic gold ng Pilipinas (I thought of making an art for her because she bagged the Philippines' first Olympic gold medal)," Dacanay told the Manila Bulletin.

"Proud ang mga Pilipino sayo, congratulations Hidilyn Diaz! (Filipinos are proud of you, congratulations, Hidilyn Diaz)," she added.

The image was sculpted on a camansi (breadnut) leaf. It took Dacanay seven hours to complete the artwork.
