Over 44K monsoon victims now staying in evacuation centers — DSWD

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reported Monday, July 26, that more than 44,000 individuals or more than 11,500 families are currently taking temporary shelter in evacuation centers after southwest monsoon rains enhanced by typhoon “Fabian” caused flooding in many parts of the country.

Based on the DSWD’s Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC), a total of 44,1000 individuals or 11,590 families are staying in 424 evacuation centers from six affected regions, including Metro Manila as of 6 p.m., July 26,

Aside from the National Capital Region (NCR), the five other affected regions are Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Ilocos, Central Luzon, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon), and Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan).

Meanwhile, a total of 12,621 families or 55,584 individuals have opted to stay with their relatives and/or friends.

The DROMIC has recorded a total of 91, 285 affected families or 360,497 individuals from 601 barangays.

The DSWD and the local government units (LGus) have so far provided more than P4.69-million worth of relief assistance to the affected areas.
