OCTA: Cagayan de Oro, Mariveles remain 'critical risk' areas for COVID-19 infections

Cagayan de Oro and Mariveles, Bataan are still considered as “critical risk” areas for new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections, according to independent research group OCTA.

In its latest monitoring report issued Monday, July 26, OCTA said that the average number of daily new cases in the two areas rose compared to the previous week.

Based on the data from OCTA, average daily new cases in Cagayan de Oro spiked to 131 for the period of July 19 to 25, from 60 cases the previous week.

As for Mariveles, the average daily new cases increased to 55, from an average of 34 cases logged in the previous week.

The group of experts earlier flagged Cagayan de Oro and Mariveles as “critical risk” areas for new infections.

The researchers tagged Davao City, Cebu City, Makati, Iloilo, Lapu-Lapu, Laoag, General Santos, Mandaue, Baguio, Las Piñas, and Valenzuela as “high risk” areas for new infections.

The OCTA flagged the “very high” one-week growth rate of cases observed in Mandaue, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu City, and Lapu-Lapu.

Moreover, it reported that the one-week growth rate of infections in the National Capital Region (NCR), Valenzuela, Mariveles, and Manila was “high”.

Citing the data from the Department of Health (DOH), OCTA said the average daily new cases in the Metro Manila surged to 954 from 651 cases the previous week.

The reproduction number in the metro was “high” at 1.31, while hospital bed and intensive care unit beds utilization rates were “low” at 39 percent and 46 percent, respectively, as of July 24.
