Monsoon rains expected over parts of Luzon - PAGASA

Monsoon rains will continue to dampen parts of Luzon over the weekend as the southwest monsoon or “habagat” continues to affect the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

The state weather bureau said the habagat will bring moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Bataan in the next 24 hours.

State meteorologists warned against possible flash floods or landslides due to scattered or widespread moderate to at times heavy rains.

Meanwhile, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may be experienced over Metro Manila, Abra, Benguet, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro.

Likewise, the agency noted that light to moderate, with at times heavy rains, will also prevail over these areas.

As for the rest of the country, spartly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms may be expected due to the habagat.

“Moreover, occasional gusty winds will be experienced, especially in the coastal and upland localities of these areas,” said PAGASA.

“Under these conditions, scattered to widespread flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible during heavy or prolonged rainfall especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps,” it added.
