With a year left in office, President Duterte is ready to deliver his farewell address to the nation Monday, July 26, after rehearsing the speech four times.

The President's sixth and final State of the Nation Address (SONA) will likely be emotional since he would thank the people for their trust and support for the past five years, according to his spokesman Harry Roque.

Duterte, who will end his six-year presidency next year, is expected to highlight his recent legacy achievements and bare priority plans for the final year in office. His priority programs include stepping up the government's pandemic response and economic recovery efforts.

"It's expected to be a farewell speech. It is bound to be emotional at the end and as I said, he is expected to thank the people for the confidence that they gave him where he gathered (the) single largest margin in recent history," Roque said over CNN Philippines ahead of the President's SONA.

"He is expected also to ask for the cooperation of people as we face 10 more months of the pandemic," he said.

Roque said the President personally edited the speech and held four rehearsals for the SONA. He said the President's final SONA is expected to last for an hour.

He said the President would lay down the administration's accomplishments in the past five years, from fighting illegal drugs, criminality, corruption, to pursuing infrastructure development and improving social services. The President's speech will also include the list of priority legislations such as bills creating the vaccine institute, department of overseas Filipinos, and a number of fiscal reform bills.
