DSWD starts augmenting LGUs' resources to assist monsoon-affected families
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has begun augmenting the resources of the local government units (LGUs) to assist the tens of thousands of families from the country’s six regions affected by the southwest monsoon rains enhanced by typhoon "Fabian."
The augmentation assistance has been provided through the DSWD’s concerned Field Offices (FOs).
Citing the report of its Disaster Response Management Bureau (DRMB) as of July 26, 6 p.m., the DSWD reported that DSWD FO Calabarzon facilitated the distribution of 387 family food packs (FFPs) to affected families in the municipalities of Calaca, Calatagan, and Nasugbu in Batangas on July 25. The distribution of the FFPs was done in coordination with the Batangas Provincial Quick Response Team (QRT)
It noted that P3.6 million worth of FFPs have been given to the provinces of Occidental Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro for distribution to the affected families.
In the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), 12 FFPs, four boxes of hygiene kits, four boxes of sleeping kits, and one box of family kit have been given to displaced families in La Trinidad, Benguet.
It said the FO CAR also prepositioned 2,000 FFPs to the LGU of Abra.
The DSWD noted that its FO III has already requested 5,000 additional stockpile from the National Resource Operations Center (NROC), the main disaster hub of DSWD, for storage at the warehouse in Fort Ramon Magsaysay, Palayan City, Nueva Ecija.
It can be distributed to affected families in the area when needed, it said.
“Concerned FOs are also consistently coordinating with Local Social Welfare and Development Offices (LSWDOs) to ensure that the needs of displaced families and individuals inside and outside evacuation centers are met,” the DSWD said.
More than 44,000 families or more than 11,500 families are currently taking temporary shelter in evacuation centers.
