7 national roads still impassable due to monsoon rains' effects--DPWH

Seven national road sections remained closed to traffic Monday afternoon, July 26, due to flooding, rock fall, and landslide caused by the heavy downpour enhanced by the southwest monsoon.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said the closed road sections were located in some parts of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Bataan, Pampanga, and Occidental Mindoro.

A section of Kalingaâ€“Abra Road in Bulac, Balbalan, Kalinga and Beto Section of the Mt. Province-Ilocos Sur Road in Tue, Tadian, Mt. Province remained closed due to soil and rock collapse. The department said quick response teams have been mobilized to conduct clearing operation along the affected sections.

The Busa Bridge along the Baguio-Bontoc Road in Sabangan, Mt. Province; a section of the Abra-Kalinga Road in Gacab, Malibcong, Abra; a section of the Abra-Ilocos Norte Road in Nagaparan, Danglas, Abra; the Junction Layac Balanga Mariveles Port Road Zigzag Section in Bataan; and the Pag-asa Section of Mindoro West Coastal Road in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro were also impassable to all types of vehicles.

Meanwhile, some portions of the Apalit Macabebe Masantol Road and Sto Tomas - Minalin Road in Pampanga, and the Panginay Section of the Bigaa Plaridel via Bulacan were still off limits to light vehicles due to the floods. Only heavy vehicles or those large enough to cross the flooded roads are allowed to pass, the agency said.

All other national roads and bridges in the country have been deemed passable to all types of vehicles as of Monday.
